Rafik Baha ad-Din Hariri (born November 1, 1944 – died February 14, 2005) was a very successful businessman from Lebanon. He became a billionaire. He also served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon two times. He was known for helping to rebuild the capital city, Beirut, after it was badly damaged during the civil war.

Who Was Rafik Hariri?
Rafik Hariri was born in the city of Sidon, Lebanon. He studied business administration at Beirut Arab University. After finishing his studies, he started working in Saudi Arabia. He built a very successful construction company there. This company helped him become one of the richest people in the world.
His Time as Prime Minister
Hariri first became the Prime Minister of Lebanon in 1992. He held this important job until 1998. He was then elected Prime Minister again in 2000. He worked hard to bring peace and growth to Lebanon after many years of conflict. He resigned from his position on October 20, 2004.
Rebuilding Lebanon
One of Hariri's biggest goals was to rebuild Lebanon. The country had suffered a lot during the civil war. He focused on fixing the damaged buildings and roads. He also worked to improve the economy and bring new businesses to Lebanon. His efforts helped Beirut become a modern and lively city again.
His Death and Investigation
On February 14, 2005, Rafik Hariri was killed in a large explosion. He was driving in his car in Beirut when a bomb exploded nearby. Twenty-one other people also died in this tragic event.
Many people in Lebanon believed that the government of Syria and its allies were responsible. The United Nations started a special investigation to find out who was behind the attack. Serge Brammertz was chosen to lead this important investigation. The search for answers continues to this day.
