Ragan Elizabeth Smith (born August 8, 2000) is a retired American gymnast. She was a member of the U.S. National Team five times from 2014 to 2019. Ragan also competed for the University of Oklahoma in college gymnastics from 2020 to 2024. She won the 2017 United States national all-around championship. She was also an alternate for the 2016 Olympic team.

About Ragan Smith
Ragan Smith was born in Snellville, Georgia. Her parents are Michael and Kerry Smith. She has two younger brothers. Ragan's mother was a gymnastics coach. Ragan started gymnastics in 2004. She lived in Lewisville, Texas, for six years. Currently, she lives in Norman, Oklahoma.
Junior Gymnastics Career
Starting Out in 2013
In 2013, Ragan became a Junior International Elite gymnast. This meant she could compete at higher-level events. She went to the 2013 Secret U.S. Classic in Illinois. She finished 23rd in the all-around competition. Later that month, she competed at the U.S. Nationals. There, she placed 17th all-around.
Competing in 2014
Ragan joined the U.S. National Team in March 2014. Her first international competition was the 2014 City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. She scored 52.650 in the all-around. In August 2014, Ragan competed at the 2014 Secret U.S. Classic. She scored 54.450, finishing 13th all-around. She also placed first on the floor exercise. At the U.S. Nationals, she finished seventh all-around. She also earned second place on both the balance beam and floor.
Junior Success in 2015
In March 2015, Ragan competed again at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She placed fifth in the all-around. She also made it to the vault and floor finals. She won third place on vault and second place on floor.
Ragan then competed in the Secret U.S. Classic. She placed first on floor exercise. She also came in second in the all-around and third on vault. In August, Ragan went to the 2015 U.S. Nationals. She finished third all-around. She also won first place on both the balance beam and floor. On December 19, 2015, Ragan decided to join the University of Oklahoma gymnastics team.
Senior Gymnastics Career
Senior Debut in 2016
Ragan's first senior competition was the 2016 City of Jesolo Trophy in March. She finished second on beam, floor, and in the all-around. In April, she competed at the Pacific Rim Championships. She won the balance beam event with a score of 15.225. At the Secret U.S. Classic, Ragan finished fifth on beam. She also tied for sixth on uneven bars. At the U.S. Olympic Trials in July 2016, she scored 15.3 on the balance beam. She finished second on that event. On July 10, Ragan was chosen as an alternate for the 2016 Olympic team.
Becoming a National Champion in 2017
On March 4, Ragan won the gold medal at the American Cup in New Jersey. In July, Ragan competed at the U.S. Classic. She only competed on uneven bars and balance beam. She took first place on both events.
On August 20, Ragan won the 2017 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships all-around title. Her combined score was 115.250. This was more than three points ahead of the second-place gymnast. She also placed first on floor exercise and balance beam. She finished third on uneven bars. Ragan was named to the national team for the fourth year in a row.
On September 20, Ragan was chosen to represent the United States at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal. During the qualifying rounds, Ragan was in second place for the all-around final. She also qualified for the floor exercise final in first place. Many thought she would win the all-around title. However, she hurt her ankle during warm-ups. This forced her to withdraw from the all-around final. She also had to withdraw from the floor exercise final. Ragan chose to recover with physical therapy instead of surgery.
Comeback and Team Gold in 2018
Ragan returned to competition at the 2018 City of Jesolo Trophy in April. She won silver medals in the all-around, balance beam, and uneven bars. She competed at the 2018 U.S. Classic in July. She only competed on vault, balance beam, and uneven bars. She finished third on balance beam.
At the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships in August, Ragan faced challenges. She had lingering ankle issues and broken toes. She finished 10th in the all-around. She was not selected for the national team at that time.
In October, Ragan took part in the Worlds Team Selection Camp. She placed fifth in the all-around. She also finished third on balance beam and fourth on vault and floor. The next day, she was named to the team for the 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. This meant she was back on the National Team. In Doha, she was chosen as the alternate. Even though she did not compete, she still earned a gold medal with her teammates.
In December, Ragan officially signed with the Oklahoma Sooners women's gymnastics program. She planned to start in the 2020–21 season.
Transition to College in 2019
In 2019, Ragan attended U.S. Women's National Team camps. However, she was not at the June camp. This led to rumors that she would join the University of Oklahoma early. In July, Ragan confirmed on Instagram that she would join the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2019–2020 season. This decision likely ended her elite gymnastics career.
College Gymnastics Career
2019–2020 Season
Ragan joined the Oklahoma Sooners women's gymnastics team for the 2019–2020 season. She had originally planned to wait a year. She made her college debut at the Collegiate Challenge. She competed in the all-around. She helped Oklahoma finish first. She also recorded the highest score on balance beam for her team.
2021–2022 Season
On January 9, Ragan competed against Alabama. She competed on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. She helped Oklahoma win the meet. On February 6, Ragan earned her first perfect ten score in college. This happened on the balance beam during a meet against Texas Women's University.
