Raghavendra Rathore's Early Life
Raghavendra Rathore was born on October 7, 1967, in Jodhpur, India. He grew up surrounded by rich traditions and culture. His family has a long history, going back over 800 years! He is a descendent of Rao Jodha, who founded the city of Jodhpur.
His mother, who is related to the Maharaja of Kashmir's family, helped him develop his creativity and love for art and culture from a young age. Mr. Rathore is also a cousin of Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur.
Education and Design Career
Raghavendra Rathore spent about ten years studying and working in the United States. He first studied art and philosophy at Marlboro College in Vermont. Then, in 1992, he graduated from the famous Parsons School of Design in New York City.
After college, Rathore worked as an assistant designer for the well-known designer Donna Karan at her DKNY brand. He also worked in Paris with another famous designer, Oscar de la Renta. De la Renta was designing for the fashion house of Pierre Balmain at the time.
Mr. Rathore was inspired by his royal family's history and his grand-aunt, Gayatri Devi. This inspiration helped him build the foundation for his own fashion brand. His early interest in fashion led to a very successful career.
His Fashion Brands
Raghavendra Rathore launched his first brand in 1994, which focused on women's clothing. About ten years later, he started Raghavendra Rathore Jodhpur. This brand is for men and is famous worldwide for its classic, custom-made clothes.
He is known for bringing back the "Brand India" idea. He made traditional Indian men's clothing popular again as everyday wardrobe items. His brand is especially famous for giving new life to the Bandhgala jacket. This is a high-collared jacket, sometimes called a Nehru Jacket.
His brand started small in Jodhpur but has grown to be recognized internationally. He works with Bollywood movies, top celebrities, and even designs for interiors and uniforms. For example, he designed 30 different looks for Amitabh Bachchan for the TV show "Kaun Banega Crorepati."
Mr. Rathore also created a ready-to-wear clothing line called RR Blue. This line offers modern and festive styles for younger people.
