Ragnar Arthur Granit (born October 30, 1900, in Riihimäki, Finland – died March 31, 1990, in Stockholm, Sweden) was a Finnish and Swedish doctor and scientist. He is famous for winning the 1967 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This award was given for his important work on how the eye works.

About Ragnar Granit

Ragnar Granit's father was Arthur Wilhelm Granit, a forester. His mother was Albertina Helena Malmberg Granit. In 1929, Ragnar Granit married Baroness Marguerite Emma Bruun, also known as "Daisy." Their son, Michael Granit, born in 1930, became an architect.

Ragnar Granit studied the electrical signals inside the eye. These signals help us to see. His research helped us understand how our eyes process vision. For this amazing work, he received the 1967 Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology.

During World War II, Ragnar Granit became a Swedish citizen. He once said that his Nobel Prize belonged equally to Finland and Sweden. This showed his strong connection to both countries.
