Rainbow is an exciting family adventure film from 1996. It was directed by Bob Hoskins. The story follows four children and their dog on an amazing journey. They get pulled into a magical rainbow! This adventure turns into a race against time. They must save the whole world from a big problem.

This movie was special because it was the first film ever made completely using digital technology. It was filmed with special high-definition cameras. Over 35 minutes of the movie used cool digital effects. Everything, from the sound to the editing, was done digitally. This was a big step forward for movies!

What's the Story About?

Mikey Bailey is a lively 10-year-old boy. He lives in Hudson Harbour, New Jersey. His grandpa Frank is a magician. Mikey also has an older brother named Steve. Steve is a bit of a loner.

One day, Mikey finds a stray dog he names Mutt. Mutt leads him to a spot where Mikey sees a real rainbow land! He tells his friends Pete and Tessy about it. They go to the spot, but they don't believe him at first. They find a triangle-shaped hole. Tessy takes a soil sample. The soil glows with color and then disappears! Mikey, Pete, and Tessy decide to track the next rainbow. They want to study it for a science project.

The Rainbow Adventure Begins

Soon, another rainbow appears. The three friends, along with Steve and Mutt, race on their bikes to reach it. When they get there, they see the rainbow land. Suddenly, they are pulled into a colorful tunnel! They take lots of photos as they go.

Then, they enter a dark part of the rainbow. It's full of gold! Steve takes three pieces of the gold. Right after he does, the rainbow vanishes! The group falls into a cornfield. They find out they are in Kansas!

A sheriff takes them to his office at the airport. Sheriff Wyatt Hampton calls Mikey's mom, Jackie. But the kids sneak away. They want to print their photos of the rainbow's inside. Jackie and Frank arrive to help them get back home. No one believes their wild story, except for Grandpa Frank.

The World Loses Color

Steve sells one piece of the gold to a pawnbroker. He tries to sell another piece to a group of older kids he wants to join. But they just make fun of him. The children's science teacher, Sam Cohen, sees their photos. He learns about their amazing project.

Soon, strange things start to happen. The world begins to lose its color! People start acting angry or falling asleep. The children, Frank, Jackie, and Sam figure it out. Because Steve took the gold, the rainbow is broken. This is causing the world to lose color, oxygen, and even the ability for plants to grow (photosynthesis). All life on Earth is in danger!

Saving the World

The group splits up to get the gold pieces back. Mike and Frank break into the pawnbroker's shop. They get one piece of gold. Tessy and Jackie find out where the next rainbow will appear. Steve, Pete, and Sam get the other gold piece from the group of older kids.

Time is running out! Mike, Steve, and Mutt race to the new rainbow's landing spot. Mike and Mutt are pulled into a faulty rainbow. But Mike quickly throws the gold pieces back into it. The rainbow is fixed! The world returns to normal, full of color and life. Mike and Mutt then find themselves in a tropical rainforest. What an adventure!
