What is the Rainy River?

The Rainy River is a natural waterway that plays a part in the water system of northern Michigan. It's not a very long river, but it helps connect different lakes and rivers in the area.

Where Does the Water Go?

The journey of the Rainy River's water begins at a place called Rainy Lake. From there, the river flows towards the northwest. Its waters continue their path until they reach Black Lake.

After joining Black Lake, the water doesn't stop there! It then flows into the Black River. From the Black River, the water moves into the Cheboygan River. Finally, all this water from the Rainy River, Black Lake, and the other rivers ends up in Lake Huron. Lake Huron is one of the five huge Great Lakes in North America.
