Rak Island is a rocky island located in the cold lands of Antarctica. It's about 615 meters (2,018 feet) long and 200 meters (656 feet) wide. That's roughly the length of six football fields! This island is part of a group called the Vedel Islands, which are found within the larger Wilhelm Archipelago near the Antarctic Peninsula. Its total area is about 6.87 hectares, which is like 17 acres.
The island got its name, Rak Island, because its shape looks a bit like a crab. In Bulgarian, the word for crab is 'rak'. Many islands in this area have names that describe what they look like.
