Rake was officially planned and marked out in the year 1900. The town was named after Andrew Danielson Rake. He was an important person who helped settle the area long ago.

Schools in Rake

Rake is part of the North Iowa Community School District. This school district was created on July 1, 1996. It was formed when two other school districts, the Buffalo Center–Rake–Lakota Community School District and the Thompson Community School District, joined together.

Before that, the Rake Community School District had already joined with the Buffalo Center Community School District on July 1, 1978. This created the Buffalo Center–Rake district. Then, on July 1, 1992, that district merged with the Lakota Consolidated School District to form the Buffalo Center–Rake–Lakota district. Finally, this district became part of North Iowa in 1996.
