Ralph (born around 2009) was a very large Continental Giant rabbit from Sussex, United Kingdom. He became famous for his amazing size, weighing almost 25 kilograms (about 55 pounds)! That's like carrying a small child!
Ralph was recognized as the world's heaviest rabbit by Guinness World Records in 2010. He briefly lost his title to another giant rabbit named Darius, but then he got it back in 2013 when he was four years old. Ralph came from a family of record-breaking rabbits. His mother, Amy, was also the world's heaviest rabbit before him, and his father, Roberto, held the title too.
Ralph's Diet and Home
Ralph ate a lot of food! His meals cost about £50 (around $60-$70 US dollars) each week. He enjoyed many different vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cucumber, sweetcorn, and watercress. He also liked brown bread, cream crackers, and Weetabix cereal.
Ralph lived at Sussex Horse Rescue in Uckfield, where his owner, Pauline Grant, took care of him. Ella McDonnell was his keeper, making sure he had everything he needed.
Ralph's Special Appearances
Ralph was quite a celebrity! He once traveled to London to meet a spiritual medium named Derek Acorah. The medium thought Ralph's huge size might be due to something unusual. Pauline Grant, who believed her house had spirits, said that Acorah had a "good old chat with Ralph about the spirits in our house."
Ralph was also featured by Bedtime Math, a program that uses fun stories to teach kids about numbers. He became the subject of some of their math problems. In December 2014, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) used Ralph in a video. They warned people flying drones not to fly ones heavier than Ralph, or they might get into trouble!
Darius, Another Giant Rabbit
Darius, the rabbit who briefly held the "world's heaviest" title from Ralph, was sadly stolen in April 2021. He was taken from his owner's garden.
