Early Life and Learning
Ralph Henry Byrne was born in Rathmines, Dublin, Ireland, on April 25, 1877. He learned a lot at home and also studied at St George's College, Weybridge.
Becoming an Architect
Ralph began his training to become an architect with his father in 1896. He also spent six months learning from another architect named Thomas Edward Marshall in Harrogate.
In 1902, Ralph became a partner in his father's architecture business. This meant they worked together as "W.H. Byrne and Son."
His father lost his sight in 1913 and passed away in 1917. After his father's death, Ralph continued to run the business. He kept the name "W.H. Byrne and Son" to honor his father's legacy.
Ralph also had assistants and students who learned from him. Some of these included Arnold Francis Hendy, Sheila Tindal, and Guy Hemingway Yeoman.
Family Life
On November 21, 1905, Ralph married Mary Josephine Mangan. She was from Dunboyne Castle.
They had one son, Frank William Barrett Mangan Byrne, who was born in 1910. Frank grew up to become a Captain in the Royal Irish Fusiliers, a famous army regiment. Sadly, Frank passed away on May 30, 1940.
Later Years
Ralph Henry Byrne died at his home on Ailesbury Road on April 15, 1946. His wife, Mary Josephine, passed away some years later in 1957.
