Ramona Nicole Mănescu, born on December 6, 1972, in Constanța, is a Romanian politician and a lawyer. She served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Romanian Government from July 24, 2019, to November 4, 2019.

Before this, she was a Member of the European Parliament. She held this role from 2007 to 2013 and again from 2014 to 2019. She was part of the National Liberal Party until July 2017. In the European Parliament, she worked with the European People's Party (European Parliament group). She was also a member of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Education and Learning

Ramona Mănescu studied Law at the University of Bucharest. After finishing her law degree, she continued her studies. She attended the Romanian Diplomatic Institute in 2006. This institute is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She also studied at the National Intelligence Academy in 2006. There, she wrote about the "Romanian Defense Industry." In 2005, she completed studies at the National Defence University. Her paper was on "Romania and the European Security and Defence Policy." She also earned a master's degree in "International Relations and European Integration" in 2006. This was from the National School of Administration and Political Science of Bucharest.

Publications and Writings

Since June 2010, Ms. Mănescu has been the head of the Romanian-Finnish School in Bucharest. She has written many articles for newspapers and magazines in Romania. These include Romanian Journal of Local Public Administration and The Economic Tribune.

She also published articles in European magazines. Some of these are EP Today and The Parliament Magazine. She helped write two photo albums: Bucharest - palaces and monuments and Bucharest - portrait of a city.

Political Journey

Ramona Mănescu was a member of the National Liberal Party (PNL) from 1990 until July 2017. From 1996 to 1997, she led the National Liberal Youth Organisation in Bucharest's District 6. Later, she joined the Foreign Relations Department of the PNL.

From 2001 to 2002, she worked as an International Officer. She was then elected vice president of the National Liberal Youth Organisation (TNL). She also reported for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Liberal Party.

Early Roles in Parliament

From 2002 to 2005, she was part of the PNL's Executive Committee for District 6. For two years (2002–2004), she worked in the Romanian Parliament. She was an adviser to the vice-president of the Defense, Internal Affairs, and National Security Commission. This commission is in the Chamber of Deputies.

In 2003, she became vice president of the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY). She held this position until 2005.

Supporting Young People

Ms. Mănescu became very involved in projects for young people. She became a vice-president of the National Authority for Youth. This role was like an Under Secretary of State from 2005 to 2007. She also advised on a program called "Media Awareness." This program helped young people understand media.

She also helped coordinate a project called "Empowerment of Women in Politics" in Poland in 2004. She gave talks at several conferences. These included "Conflict management - training young people" and "Globalization, 90 years of Romanian Diplomacy" in 2003. She also led a project on "Human Rights and International Law" in Strasbourg, France, in 2003.

European Parliament Work

Ramona Mănescu has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2007. From 2007 to 2014, she was part of the ALDE group. She was also a vice-president of the ALDE Party from 2012 to 2014. In this group, she helped coordinate the Regional Development Committee. She was also a member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

In June 2014, she was re-elected to the European Parliament. She then joined the European People's Party (European Parliament group). In July 2017, Ms. Mănescu left the PNL.

What She Did in the European Parliament

As a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Ramona Mănescu worked to help Romania. She tried to make sure Romania's needs were heard in the European Parliament. She worked to protect the rights and interests of Romanian citizens. She also aimed to improve Romania's image in Europe.
