Rampage is the official mascot of the Los Angeles Rams, a team in the National Football League (NFL). He was first introduced in July 2010. Rampage is a ram who looks like a person, and he wears a Rams jersey just like the players. His jersey number is one (#1).

How Rampage Got His Name

Fans chose Rampage's name in an online contest. The winning name, "Rampage," was announced on July 26, 2010. This happened at the St. Louis Zoo. More than 1,000 names were suggested for the new mascot!

The most popular names were Rampage, Archie, Ramsey, Rammer, and Rush. Chris Shaffer submitted the winning name. He won a special suite at a Rams game for himself and fifteen friends. He also received a Rams jersey and a $200 gift card to the team's online store. Chris and his family were there when Rampage was first shown to the public.

Why the Rams Created Rampage

Kevin Demoff, who helps run the Rams, said that Rampage "has the soft feel of a stuffed animal, but the strong build of a superhero." The team owners said Rampage would appear about 300 times a year. These appearances include games, charity events, and parties.

Demoff explained that the team wanted a mascot to make game days more fun. They also wanted Rampage to help them get more involved in the community. The Rams hoped Rampage would be a big part of making the team popular again. He was meant to help the team create a stronger identity.

He also does funny, childlike things. Both home and visiting fans usually find Rampage easy to approach and very kind.

Rams' Past Mascots

The Rams team started in 1937. They have played in three different cities: Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis. They moved back to Los Angeles in 2016. In their long history, they only had one mascot before Rampage.

This mascot was named Ramster. He was a furry creature that looked more like a rat than a ram. Ramster was around in the mid-1990s. However, fans did not really like Ramster, so he was retired in 1996.

Rampage's Achievements

Rampage has earned many awards and honors:

On July 22, 2010, Rampage threw the first pitch at a baseball game. This was for the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Rampage has been chosen for the Pro Bowl five times since he became the mascot. He attended the Pro Bowl in 2011, 2013, and 2015.
