He was part of the Spanish national team in the late 1980s. Calderé played for Spain in the 1986 World Cup and Euro 1988. After he stopped playing, he became a football coach. He has coached many teams, mainly in the lower leagues.

Playing Career Highlights

Starting at Barcelona

Ramón Calderé was born in Vila-rodona, Catalonia, Spain. He started his football journey in the youth system of his local club, FC Barcelona. He spent several years playing for Barcelona's reserve team, Barcelona B.

In the 1980–81 season, he made his first appearance in La Liga with Real Valladolid. He was on loan to them for a short time.

Success with FC Barcelona

When he was 25, Calderé joined Barcelona's main team. In his very first season, 1984–85, he helped them win the league title. Even though he wasn't always a starting player, he contributed to their success.

In 1988, he moved to Real Betis, another team in the top league. He played there for two seasons. Ramón retired from playing football in 1993 at the age of 34. His last club was UE Sant Andreu.

Becoming a Coach

After retiring as a player, Calderé began a long career as a football coach. He has managed many teams, mostly smaller clubs in Spain. Some of these teams include CE Premià, UE Cornellà, CF Gavà, UE Castelldefels, CF Badalona, AD Ceuta, CF Reus Deportiu, CD Teruel, CF Palencia, and Burgos CF. He also had a brief role as an assistant coach for Sint-Truidense V.V. in Belgium.

International Football

Playing for Spain

Ramón Calderé played 18 games for the Spanish national team. He scored seven goals for his country. He made his debut for Spain on 30 April 1985 in a World Cup qualifying match against Wales.

He was chosen to play in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. In a group stage match against Algeria, he scored two goals, helping Spain win 3–0. He was also part of the squad for UEFA Euro 1988, but he did not play in any matches during that tournament.

Under-21 European Champions

Calderé also played for the Spanish under-21 team. He helped them win the 1986 European Championships. Even though he was an older player for the under-21 team, his experience was valuable. He could not play in the finals due to an injury.

1986 World Cup Incident

During the 1986 World Cup, Ramón Calderé became unwell. The team doctor gave him medicine to help him feel better. After a match, he had a routine test. The test showed a positive result.

However, Ramón was not punished. The medical staff explained that the medicine was given to him to treat his illness and prevent him from becoming very dehydrated. Because of this clear explanation, he was allowed to continue playing. He then scored two goals in the next match against Algeria.
