Rancho Cucamonga was a very large piece of land, about 13,045-acre (52.79 km2) in size. It was a Mexican land grant given in 1839. This land is now part of San Bernardino County, California.
The land was given to a dedicated soldier and politician named Tiburcio Tapia. The Mexican governor at the time, Juan Bautista Alvarado, approved this grant. Today, parts of this old land grant are in the cities of Rancho Cucamonga and Upland. The original Rancho stretched from San Antonio Creek to what is now Hermosa Avenue. It also went from today's Eighth Street up to the mountains.
