The Ranoidea fuscula is a type of tree frog that lives in Indonesia. Scientists first found this special frog in the Derewo River Basin, located in Papua Province. It was found high up in the mountains, about 1,890 meters (or about 6,200 feet) above sea level.

Discovering the Ranoidea fuscula

Scientists Oliver and Richards officially described this frog in 2007. They gave it the name Ranoidea fuscula. When they first studied it, they noticed it was very similar to another frog called the Ranoidea dorsivena. This means they likely share a common ancestor and have similar features.

Where This Frog Lives

The Ranoidea fuscula is a mountain dweller. It prefers to live near cool, clear mountain streams. These streams are its home, providing the perfect environment for it to find food and stay safe. Living high in the mountains means it's used to cooler temperatures compared to frogs that live in warmer, lower areas.

What Makes It a Tree Frog?

Like other tree frogs, Ranoidea fuscula likely has special pads on its toes. These pads help it grip onto wet leaves, branches, and rocks. This makes it easy for the frog to climb and move around in its stream-side home. Tree frogs are known for their amazing climbing skills!
