Rarriwuy Hick's Early Life
Rarriwuy Hick was born in Sydney, Australia, around 1991. She grew up in two different places. One was Lilyfield, a suburb in Sydney. The other was Dhalinybuy, an Aboriginal community. This community is located in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
Languages and Family
Rarriwuy learned to speak Yolŋu Matha first. She also learned other Aboriginal Australian languages. Later, she learned English. She can speak seven different dialects! Her mother, Janet Munyarryun, is a Yolngu woman. She was one of the first members of the famous Bangarra Dance Theatre.
Education and Dance
Rarriwuy's mother inspired her to love dance and the arts. Rarriwuy went to a Catholic girls' high school. There, she was so interested in dance that she started her own dance group. In 2009, she began studying at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA) Dance College. While she was studying, she got a chance to audition for a play called Wrong Skin. She got the part and performed in the play's tour.
Rarriwuy Hick's Acting Career
Rarriwuy Hick has starred in many popular TV shows. She appeared in two episodes of Redfern Now (2012–2013). She also played Ruby Mitchell in the show Wentworth. She joined the show in its sixth season. Rarriwuy continued her role as Ruby Mitchell for the show's final season.
Lead Roles and Recent Work
In 2022, Rarriwuy played the main character, Detective Toni Alma. This was in the TV miniseries True Colours. Her character returned to her hometown in Central Australia. Many people said her performance was her best work yet.
In 2023, Rarriwuy appeared in Home and Away. She played the character Elandra Hudson. She also acted in the SBS drama ... Stories.
In 2024, Rarriwuy was announced as part of the cast for a new movie called Kangaroo. She was also named as a cast member for the second season of the ABC drama Mystery Road: Origin.
