Rathanadav is an ancient site in County Tipperary, Ireland. It's also known by other names like Carron Henge or Fort Aengus. This special place is a mix of a ringfort (which is like an old circular fort) and a henge (a circular earthwork). It's so important that it's protected as a National Monument of Ireland.
Where is Rathanadav Located?
Rathanadav sits on a hill about 4 km (2.5 mi) south of a town called Cashel. It's also about 6.4 km (4.0 mi) east of the River Suir. Experts think it might be part of an even bigger ancient area called Rathnadrinna, which is just 2 km (1.2 mi) north of Rathanadav.
What Does Rathanadav Look Like?
Rathanadav is mainly a ringfort surrounded by a large, circular ditch or bank, which is the henge part. This circle is about 100 m (330 ft) wide! There's an entrance to this ancient site near the north side. Inside the main circle, you can see five low mounds. These mounds might be old burial sites, or they could be the remains of buildings that once stood there. This site helps us learn about how people lived a very long time ago.
