Raymond Getliffe (born April 3, 1914 – died June 15, 2008) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played as a left winger for 10 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). Ray played for both the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. He was born in Galt, Ontario, which is now known as Cambridge, Ontario.

Ray Getliffe's name is on the Stanley Cup twice. He won it with the Boston Bruins in 1939. Later, he won it again with the Montreal Canadiens in 1944. This is a special achievement for any hockey player. On February 6, 1943, while playing for the Canadiens, he scored an amazing five goals in just one game!

After his playing career, Ray Getliffe worked briefly as an official in the NHL. He and his wife, Lorna, lived in Montreal for many years. In 1990, they moved to London, Ontario, where Ray had grown up. Ray Getliffe passed away in London at the age of 94. At the time, many believed he was the oldest living former Montreal Canadiens player.

Ray Getliffe's Hockey Journey

Ray Getliffe started his hockey career playing for teams like the London Athletic Club. He also played for the Saint John St. Peters. These early years helped him develop his skills as a strong left winger. His talent soon caught the attention of professional teams.

Joining the NHL

Ray Getliffe made his debut in the National Hockey League in 1935. He first played for the Boston Bruins. He quickly became an important player for the team. In 1939, he helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup, which is one of the biggest trophies in hockey.

After his time with the Bruins, Ray joined the Montreal Canadiens. He continued to be a key player for them. In 1944, he helped the Canadiens win another Stanley Cup. This made him a two-time Stanley Cup champion. Scoring five goals in a single game for the Canadiens was a highlight of his career.

Life After Hockey

After retiring from playing, Ray Getliffe stayed involved with hockey for a short time. He worked as an official in the NHL. This meant he helped make sure games were played fairly.

Later, Ray fully retired from hockey. He enjoyed his life with his wife, Lorna. They spent many years in Montreal, a city famous for its hockey history. Moving back to London, Ontario, in 1990 brought him closer to his roots. Ray Getliffe is remembered as a dedicated player and a two-time Stanley Cup winner.
