Rayland is a small village in southern Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. It is located right along the Ohio River. In 2020, about 389 people lived there. Rayland is part of the larger Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area.

History of Rayland
Rayland was first known as Portland Station. A post office opened there in 1871, giving the village its first name. In 1905, the village's name was changed to Rayland. It officially became a village in 1938.
Long ago, when it was called Portland Station, Rayland was one of the biggest port towns on the Ohio River. This means many boats and goods came through here.
The Stringer Stone House
A historic stone house, called the Stringer Stone House, used to stand in Rayland. It was also known as the John B. Bayless House. This house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Sadly, it was destroyed by fire in 1982.
The house was built in 1836 by John Brown Bayless. He was an abolitionist, which means he worked to end slavery. The inside of the house had beautiful paintings by an Italian artist. These paintings showed a waterfall, a treaty, a castle, and a gristmill. In 1860, Jefferson D. Stringer bought the house. Rutherford B. Hayes, who later became president, visited the house in 1876.
The house was very unique. It was made of gray sandstone and had three and a half stories. The main doors were on the second floor. It also had two chimneys on each end. A small wooden porch was at the front entrance, reached by stone steps.
