Raymond Shaban (born August 22, 1993), known as Rayvanny, is a famous musician from Tanzania. He writes and sings his own songs. Rayvanny was part of the WCB Wasafi record label until July 2022. He grew up in Nzovwe, a part of Mbeya city in Tanzania.
Rayvanny is one of the most successful Bongo Flava artists from his region. Bongo Flava is a popular music style from Tanzania. Most of his songs are in the Swahili language. He also started his own music company called Next Level Music. Rayvanny became well-known for his hit song "Kwetu". In 2017, MTV Base said he was an artist to watch.
In August 2022, a special version of his song "Mama Tetema" won an award. This version was a collaboration with Colombian musician Maluma. They won the Best Global Collaboration award at the East Africa Arts Entertainment Awards (EAEA). Rayvanny was also nominated for a Grammy Award. This was for his work on "Mama Tetema" with Maluma. The song was on Maluma's album "Don Juan", released in May 2023.

Rayvanny's Music Journey
Starting in Music
Rayvanny discovered his love for music in 2011. He was still in high school at the time. He even won a rap freestyle competition! In 2012, he joined a music group called Tip Top Connection. This helped him gain more experience and meet other artists.
Joining WCB Wasafi
In 2015, Rayvanny joined WCB Wasafi Records. This is one of the biggest music labels in Tanzania. It is led by the famous artist Diamond Platnumz. Rayvanny released his first song, "Kwetu", in 2016. The song quickly became very popular across East Africa.
Awards and Recognition
Rayvanny has received many awards and nominations. In 2016, he was nominated for an MTV Africa Music Award. He was recognized as a "Breakthrough Act". The next year, he was nominated for more awards. These included the AEUSA for Best New Talent and the Uganda Entertainment Award for Best African Act. He also won a BET Award for International Viewers' Choice.
Starting Next Level Music
In 2021, Rayvanny started his own record label. He named it Next Level Music. He signed his first artist, Mac Voice, to the label. In November 2021, Rayvanny worked with Maluma on the song "Mama Tetema". This song was very successful. It was even certified "Disco de Oro" (Gold Record) in 2022 by the RIAA.
In July 2022, Rayvanny left WCB Wasafi. He wanted to focus completely on his own company, Next Level Music. Rayvanny holds some special records. He was the first Tanzanian artist to perform at the MTV EMA stage. He was also the first Tanzanian artist to get 100 million streams on Boomplay. And he is the only Tanzanian artist to ever win a BET Award.
