Zuhura Othman Soud, known to her fans as Zuchu, is a talented singer and songwriter from Tanzania. She was born on November 22, 1993, in Zanzibar. Today, she lives in Dar es Salaam and is signed to the famous WCB Wasafi record label.

Early Life

Zuchu comes from a very musical family in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Her family is well-known for their contributions to Swahili music. Her mother, Khadija Kopa, is a famous taarab musician. Taarab is a style of music from East Africa that blends African, Arab, and Indian sounds. Zuchu's father, Othman Soud, wrote songs for her mother and a popular band called TOT.

Because of her mother, Zuchu got to meet Diamond Platnumz, who started the Wasafi music label. She auditioned for him in 2016. During her audition, she sang two songs, including "Wana." This song later became her very first single. Her amazing performance helped her join the Wasafi Family.

Music Career

Zuchu started singing when she was very young. She even worked with her mother, Khadija Kopa, on a song called "Mauzauza." This song was part of Zuchu's first music collection, an EP titled I am Zuchu. One of her first public performances was in 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria. She auditioned there for a show called TECNO OWN THE STAGE.

Zuchu has achieved many great things in her career.

  • In 2022, she became the female artist with the most subscribers on YouTube in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • A few months later, she was the first female artist in East Africa to get 100 million streams on Boomplay.
  • Also in 2022, Zuchu was the first female artist from East Africa to be nominated for an MTV EMA award.

In 2023, Zuchu released a new song called "Utaniua." Music experts in Tanzania praised "Utaniua" for honoring Bongo Flava and Baibuda music styles. In March 2023, she released the music video for another new song, "Napambana."

By June 2023, Zuchu had reached over 500 million views on YouTube. This made her the first female artist in East Africa and the fifth female artist in all of Africa to reach this huge number. Her popular song "Sukari," released in 2021, was even named one of the best Tanzanian songs of the decade by Notjustok in 2023.
