Diamond Platnumz's Music Journey
Diamond Platnumz started his music career in 2006. He was 18 years old and sold clothes to earn money. He used this money to record his first song, "Toka Mwanzo." This song mixed bongo flava with R&B music. However, it wasn't a big hit at first.
His Big Break in Music
His first really successful song was "Kamwambie," released in 2010. This song won three Tanzania Music Awards! In the same year, he released his first album, also called Kamwambie.
In 2014, Diamond Platnumz was nominated for a BET Award. This award celebrates the best international artists from Africa. He often works with a videographer named Director Kenny to make his music videos. Their music video for "Waah" was nominated for "Best African Video" in 2021. The "Waah" video has over 100 million views on YouTube, making it one of the most-watched Tanzanian music videos.
New Music and Collaborations
In 2022, he released an extended playlist (EP) called First Of All (FOA). This EP had 10 songs and featured many top African artists. Some of these artists include Zuchu, Adekunle Gold, and Focalistic. The First Of All EP mixes R&B, Bongo Flava, and Afrobeats. To promote it, Diamond Platnumz did something new in Tanzania: he showed all the music videos from the EP at a cinema!
In 2023, he worked with Congolese musician Koffi Olomide again. This was their second song together after their hit "Waah" from 2020. Also in 2023, Diamond Platnumz won his third MTV EMA award for Best African Act.
Diamond Platnumz's Life
Diamond Platnumz is a Muslim. He has children with his former partner, Zari Hassan, and with Tanzanian model Hamisa Mobetto. He also has a son with Kenyan model and musician Tanasha Donna.
