Rayvonte De'Tra Rice (born July 14, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He plays as a guard. Rayvonte is from Champaign, Illinois. He finished his college basketball career at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before that, he played at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa from 2010 to 2012. He transferred after his second year.

High School Basketball Achievements

Rayvonte Rice played basketball at Centennial High School. In 2009, during his junior year, he helped his team win the 3A IHSA Boys Basketball Championship. They beat Oswego High School 61–59.

In his senior year (2010), Rayvonte was a star player. He scored about 23.9 points per game. He also got 6.4 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 1.8 assists per game. He led his team back to the state tournament, where they finished fourth.

Rayvonte was named to the 2010 Illinois All-American Team. This team was chosen by many important sports groups. He was also named the 2010 News-Gazette All-State Player of the Year. He was the first player from the Champaign–Urbana metropolitan area to win this award since 1984.

Rayvonte Rice holds a special record at Centennial High School. He is the all-time leading scorer in the school's history. He also holds the record for most points in Champaign-Urbana high school history, with 1,810 career points.

Freshman Year Impact

In his first year at Drake University, Rayvonte made a big difference. He played in 31 games. He scored about 13.8 points per game. He shot just over 40% from the field. Because of his great play, he was chosen for the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team. He also made the All-Newcomers Team.

Sophomore Year Success

Rayvonte got even better in his second year at Drake. He averaged 16.8 points per game. He shot about 44% from the field. After this season, he was named to the 2012 Second-Team Missouri Valley Conference.

After his sophomore year, Rayvonte decided to transfer from Drake. He chose between Illinois, Xavier, Memphis, and Marquette. He chose Illinois because Coach John Groce had tried to recruit him before.

Transferring to Illinois

Due to NCAA rules for transfers, Rayvonte had to sit out the 2012-2013 season. This meant he could only practice with the team. He could watch home games at the State Farm Center. During this year, Rayvonte worked very hard. He changed his workouts and diet. He lost 45 pounds and lowered his body fat to 5%.

Junior Year Highlights

During the 2013-2014 season, Rayvonte was named Big Ten Player of the Week twice. He led the conference in scoring, averaging 19 points per game.

Senior Year Achievements

In his senior year, Rayvonte won the Las Vegas Tournament MVP award. He greatly improved his three-point shooting, going from 29% to 44%. He made a game-winning shot against Missouri in the Braggin' Rights game. He also had an amazing alley-oop dunk against Purdue.

Even though he missed some games due to an injury, he still played very well. He improved his overall shooting and free throw percentage. He also averaged more rebounds, steals, assists, and points than in his junior year. He was one of the top scorers and rebounders in the Big Ten conference. He shared the Co-Most Outstanding Player award for the Illini with his teammate Nnanna Egwu.

Professional Basketball Career

Rayvonte Rice started his professional basketball career in 2015. He signed with Tezenis Verona in Italy. He later played for Basket Ravenna Piero Manetti in Italy from 2017 to 2018. There, he averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

In 2018, he joined Petrochimi Bandar Imam BC in Iran. In July 2019, Rayvonte played with the Phoenix Suns in the 2019 NBA Summer League.

He then played for Avtodor Saratov in Russia in 2019. Later that year, he moved to Hapoel Eilat in Israel. In 2020, he signed with Kyoto Hannaryz in Japan.

In December 2021, Rayvonte signed with Ionikos Nikaias in Greece. In January 2022, he left the team to try for a contract in the G League. He was then acquired by the Salt Lake City Stars.

In 2023, Rayvonte joined the Brampton Honey Badgers in Canada. He also signed with the Taichung Suns in Taiwan. In 2024, he played for the Kaohsiung 17LIVE Steelers, also in Taiwan.

In June 2024, Rayvonte signed with the Liaoning Flying Leopards in China. In September 2024, he joined the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots in the Philippines. He was later replaced on that team. On December 24, 2024, he signed with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China, but his contract ended in January 2025.

Personal Life and Family

Rayvonte Rice grew up in Champaign, Illinois. He looked up to famous basketball players from the Fighting Illini team. These players included Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Luther Head, and Corey Bradford.

In high school, Rayvonte played two sports. He also played football as a running back. He was a backup to his cousin, Mikel Leshoure. Mikel Leshoure went on to play football for the Fighting Illini. He was later drafted by the Detroit Lions in the NFL.
