How Were They Formed?

When they first started, the Razakars were led by local groups who supported Pakistan. But over time, they became more official.

In 1971, the government made special rules about them. On June 1, a rule called the East Pakistan Razakar Ordinance was put in place. Later, on September 7, another rule from the Ministry of Defence in Pakistan made them official members of the Pakistan Army. This meant they were recognized as part of the military effort.
