Reader Rabbit is a fun computer game that helps kids learn to read and spell. It first came out in 1983. This game was the very first in a popular series called Reader Rabbit.
The game was made by The Learning Company. It was first available for Apple II computers. Later, it came out for many other computers too. A special version that could talk was made for the Apple IIGS in 1989. In 1994, a "Deluxe" version was released for Macintosh and Windows computers. The game was even remade in 1997 as "Reader Rabbit's Reading 1".
How to Play Reader Rabbit
The game takes place inside a special place called the Word Factory. Here, you learn about reading and spelling through four different activities. The game uses over 200 three-letter words and more than 70 pictures to help you learn.
Here are the four main activities you can play:
- 1. Sorter: In this game, you need to find words that all start with the same letter. You pick out the correct words and put aside the ones that don't fit.
- 2. Labeler: You will see some mixed-up letters and three pictures. Your job is to use those letters to spell the words that match the pictures on the screen.
- 3. Word Train: This activity challenges you to choose a word that is just a little bit different from the first word shown. It helps you notice small changes in words.
- 4. Matchup Games: In this game, you match picture cards with their correct word cards. It's like a memory game, but with words and pictures!
