The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Charles of Valencia (in Spanish, Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia) is a famous art school in Valencia, Spain. It has been teaching art since 1768.

History of the Royal Academy

This art school is considered the continuation of an older school called the Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Bárbara, which closed in 1759.

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Saint Charles was officially started by a special order from King Charles III on February 14, 1768. Its original name was Royal Academy of the Three Noble Arts of Saint Charles. It was set up similar to another famous art school in Madrid, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.

The "three noble arts" taught at the academy were painting, sculpture, and architecture. For a long time, until 1910, the training was mostly about practical skills. After that, the school added more important lessons about art theory and different practical techniques.

In 1913, a museum for paintings and sculptures was placed under the academy's care. This meant the academy also helped manage and display art for the public.

Today, the president of the academy is Román de la Calle de la Calle.
