The Saint Charles Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Valencia is an important Art school in Valencia, Spain. It has been teaching art since 1768. Its full name in Spanish is Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia.
History of the Academy
This art school started after another one, the Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Bárbara, closed in 1759. The new academy was officially created by King Charles III on February 14, 1768. It was first called the Royal Academy of the three Noble Arts of Saint Charles.
The "three noble arts" taught were painting, sculpture, and architecture. For a long time, until 1910, the training was mostly hands-on. After 1910, the academy added more important theory and practical knowledge to its courses. In 1913, a museum for painting and sculpture became part of the academy.
Today, the president of the academy is Román de la Calle de la Calle.
