The Story of Reata Restaurant
The name Reata means "rope" in Spanish. It was inspired by a famous book called Giant by Edna Ferber.
In 1996, Reata opened its second restaurant in Fort Worth, Texas. This location was on the 35th floor of a tall building called the Bank One Tower. On March 28, 2000, a strong tornado hit Fort Worth. Reata's restaurant was damaged and had to close. But the team worked quickly! Within just six weeks, they rebuilt the restaurant in the same spot, and it was open again.
In January 2001, the restaurant had to close once more. However, it found a new home and reopened in May 2002. This new location was in the building that used to be the Caravan of Dreams in Sundance Square.
Reata on the Road
While the main restaurant was moving, Reata started a new part of its business in February 2001. This was a catering service called Reata on the Road. It had a large kitchen to prepare food for events.
In 2002, Reata opened another special spot called Reata at the Rodeo. This was inside the Amon Carter Exhibits Hall and served people attending the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. In 2007, Reata also took over the Backstage Club at the Stock Show and Rodeo, renaming it Reata at the Backstage Club.
In the fall of 2008, a cookbook written by Mike Micallef was released. It's called "Reata: Legendary Texas Cooking" and shares many of the restaurant's famous recipes. You can find this cookbook online and in the Reata Store. In January 2010, Reata even opened a Mexican food restaurant called La Espuela at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
