About Rebeca Quintáns
Her Education and Early Career
Rebeca Quintáns studied Spanish Philology at the University of Santiago de Compostela. This means she focused on the Spanish language and its literature. Later, she earned a special degree called a doctorate in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid. For her doctorate, she wrote a big research paper about the speeches of Juan Carlos I.
Writing About Important Topics
Rebeca Quintáns started her writing career by turning her doctoral research into a book. She felt it was important to share what she had learned. She noticed a big difference between how Juan Carlos I was shown in the media and what she found in her research. She wanted to tell the full story.
Her First Book: Un Rey golpe a golpe
Her first book, Un Rey golpe a golpe (which means A King Coup by Coup), came out in 2000. For safety reasons, she used a different name, Patricia Sverlo, for this book. It was a follow-up to her university research. The book explored the life of Juan Carlos I, especially during a time in Spain called the Transition.
Her Later Work and Journalism
As a journalist, Rebeca Quintáns has written for many different newspapers and magazines. Some of these were well-known, like Interviú and Tiempo. She also wrote for what are called alternative media. These are publications that offer different viewpoints from the main news.
Besides writing, she is also a teacher. She teaches in secondary schools and has also worked as a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid.
In 2016, she published another book called Juan Carlos I: la biografía sin silencios (Juan Carlos I: the biography without silences). This book was an updated and longer version of her earlier work. It looked at parts of the former king's life that were not often discussed in the news.
