Rebecca De Mornay, born on August 29, 1959, is an American actress. She became well-known in 1983 for her role in the movie Risky Business. She also starred in other popular films like The Slugger's Wife (1985) and Runaway Train (1985).
Her other notable movies include Backdraft (1991) and the thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (1992). She appeared in The Three Musketeers (1993) and Wedding Crashers (2005). On TV, she played Wendy Torrance in The Shining miniseries (1997). She also played Dorothy Walker in Marvel's Jessica Jones (2015–2019).

Early Life and Family Background
Rebecca Jane Pearch was born in Santa Rosa, California. Her mother was Julie, and her father was Wally George, a disc jockey and TV host. Her grandmother, Eugenia Clinchard, was a vaudeville performer and child actress.
Her parents divorced in 1960. She later took the last name De Mornay after her mother married Richard De Mornay in 1961. She lived in Pasadena, California, for a few years. After her stepfather passed away in 1962, her mother moved the family to Europe. They lived in different places there. Rebecca went to Summerhill School in England and finished high school in Germany.
Rebecca De Mornay's Acting Career
By age 16, Rebecca had an agent who helped sell her songs to German musicians. She even wrote a theme song for a kung fu movie in 1975. In 1980, she returned to the United States. She began studying acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute.
Her first movie role was a small part in One from the Heart (1981). Her big break came in 1983 with the movie Risky Business. In 1985, she starred in The Slugger's Wife and also appeared in The Trip to Bountiful and Runaway Train. Both of these films received nominations for Academy Awards. She also appeared in the music video for the song "Sara" by Starship, which became a number one hit in 1986.
In 1988, she was in the movie And God Created Woman. She also played the wife of Kurt Russell's character in Backdraft (1991). In 1990, she played a USAF Captain in the HBO film By the Dawn's Early Light. One of her most successful films was the thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, released in 1992.
She played a defense lawyer in Guilty as Sin (1993) with Don Johnson. In 1995, she appeared in Never Talk to Strangers alongside Antonio Banderas. She was also an executive producer for that film. In 2003, she was a guest star in two episodes of Boomtown. In 2004, she played attorney Hannah Rose in The Practice. The next year, she had a small role in Wedding Crashers.
In 2007, she appeared in the HBO series John from Cincinnati. She played the mother of a surfing family. She also starred in Mother's Day (2010). In 2012, Rebecca played Finch's mom in the movie American Reunion. From 2015 to 2019, she was in Jessica Jones as Trish Walker's mother.
Personal Life and Relationships
Rebecca De Mornay was in a relationship with actor Harry Dean Stanton in the early 1980s. They met while working on the movie One from the Heart. Later, she was in a relationship with Tom Cruise while filming Risky Business. They were together until 1985.
She married writer Bruce Wagner on December 16, 1986. They divorced in 1990. Rebecca was also in a relationship with singer Leonard Cohen and was briefly engaged to him. She helped produce his 1992 album The Future, which was dedicated to her. Rebecca De Mornay has two daughters with sportscaster Patrick O'Neal.
