Story of the Film
D'Artagnan's Journey to Paris
The story begins in France in 1625. A skilled young fencer named d'Artagnan travels to Paris. He dreams of becoming a musketeer. Musketeers are special guards who protect the King of France.
On his journey, d'Artagnan is chased by Gérard and his brothers. They are upset with him. Meanwhile, Cardinal Richelieu, the King's powerful minister, wants to get rid of the musketeers. He orders Captain Rochefort to disband them. Rochefort tells Richelieu that three musketeers refuse to give up their duties. These brave musketeers are Athos, Porthos, and Aramis.
Meeting the Musketeers
In Paris, d'Artagnan tries to help the queen's handmaidens. He then meets Constance, one of the handmaidens, and likes her. He also meets Athos, Porthos, and Aramis separately. He doesn't know they are the famous musketeers. This leads to d'Artagnan arranging a duel with each of them.
When they meet for the duels, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis reveal they are musketeers. D'Artagnan is very surprised. Before they can fight each other, Captain Rochefort arrives. He brings five guards to arrest the musketeers. Even though d'Artagnan is not wanted, he decides to help the musketeers.
Fighting the Cardinal's Guards
During the fight, the musketeers defeat four guards. D'Artagnan fights the Captain and wins. The Captain falls to his death. The musketeers are impressed by d'Artagnan's bravery. They tell him to escape and pretend he wasn't involved. But more guards arrive, and d'Artagnan is captured.
Richelieu's Secret Plan
D'Artagnan manages to escape from his cell. He overhears a secret conversation between Richelieu and a mysterious woman, Milady de Winter. Richelieu is planning to take over the King's power. He asks Milady to deliver a secret treaty to the Duke of Buckingham in England.
Rochefort catches d'Artagnan, but d'Artagnan didn't see Milady's face. Richelieu orders d'Artagnan to be executed. This is because d'Artagnan won't tell them where the musketeers are hiding. Luckily, the musketeers rescue him just in time. As they escape, d'Artagnan tells them about Richelieu's evil plan. They decide to stop Milady in Calais and get the treaty. This will prove Richelieu is guilty.
Milady and the Treaty
The group splits up during a fight. D'Artagnan rides ahead to Calais. He gets very tired and passes out. Milady de Winter finds him. He wakes up without his weapons or clothes. D'Artagnan talks openly about his plans, not knowing Milady is the spy. She tries to kill him, but he convinces her to let him live.
As Milady and her group get on a boat to England, the musketeers stop them. Milady tries to run away. But Athos stops her. It turns out Athos was once in love with her. He had reported her to the authorities when he found out she was involved in a crime. The musketeers get the treaty back. Milady is sentenced to death for a past crime. Before she is executed, Athos asks for her forgiveness. She is touched and reveals Richelieu's plan to kill the King. She then jumps off a cliff to her death.
Saving the King
Athos, Porthos, and Aramis send messages to gather the other musketeers. Richelieu and Rochefort have hired a sharpshooter. During the King's birthday celebration, d'Artagnan stops the sniper's shot. The shot barely misses the King. The musketeers then reveal themselves. Richelieu tries to blame them for the attack.
The three musketeers fight the Cardinal's guards. More men rush to help them, revealing themselves as musketeers too. The two groups battle. Richelieu takes the King and Queen hostage. He shoots Aramis in the chest before escaping to the dungeon. Athos and Porthos chase after him.
D'Artagnan's Victory
D'Artagnan fights Rochefort. Rochefort disarms him and brags about killing d'Artagnan's father. Constance finds d'Artagnan's sword and throws it to him. D'Artagnan quickly kills Rochefort.
Athos and Porthos arrive just as Richelieu's boat leaves on an underground river. Richelieu promises to return. But then, the boatman reveals himself to be Aramis! His crucifix had stopped the bullet. Aramis moves to arrest the Cardinal. But King Louis punches Richelieu himself, knocking him into the river.
Becoming a Musketeer
The King brings back the musketeers. He offers d'Artagnan anything he wants. D'Artagnan chooses to become a musketeer and serve King Louis. Outside the musketeer headquarters, Gérard and his brothers arrive. They challenge d'Artagnan to a duel again. Porthos reminds d'Artagnan that musketeers protect each other. Gérard and his brothers are then chased away by all the musketeers.
