Recajo's Airport History
Recajo is home to an airport with a fascinating past. It started as a military airfield in 1923. At first, it was called Aeródromo de Recajo.
From Military to Civilian Use
In 1932, the airport's official name changed to Aeródromo de Agoncillo. This happened when the Spanish Republican Air Force began using it. After 1939, the Recajo Air Base became an important place for the Spanish Air Force. They used it to house bomber planes like the Heinkel He 111 until the late 1950s.
Once the bomber planes were no longer used, the airfield changed again. It became a civilian airport. Today, it is known as the Logroño-Agoncillo Airport. It has a smaller runway and even includes a museum.
