Red (Pokémon) facts for kids

Red (レッド, Reddo) is a very famous character from the Pokémon games! He is the main hero of the very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Blue. These games were made by Nintendo. Red also appears in Pokémon Green and Yellow. Did you know that Ash Ketchum, the main character from the Pokémon TV show, was inspired by Red?

Red's Adventures in Video Games

Red is the main character in the Pokémon Red and Blue video games. He also stars in their newer versions, Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Starting His Pokémon Journey

Red is an 11-year-old boy from a place called Pallet Town. He loves Pokémon! His adventure starts when Professor Oak invites Red and his friend Green to his lab. They get their first Pokémon there. After picking their Pokémon, Green challenges Red to a battle right away!

Professor Oak then gives Red and Green a special device called a Pokédex. Their big dream is to fill it with information about every single Pokémon.

Becoming a Pokémon Champion

Red travels all over the Kanto region. He works hard to fill his Pokédex. He also battles and defeats many Gym Leaders. These leaders are strong trainers who give out special badges. His friend, Green, is always a step ahead of him. Sometimes, Green even tries to slow Red down.

When Red finally reaches the Indigo Plateau, he learns something amazing. Green has already beaten all the strongest trainers there! This means Green is the current Pokémon League Champion. But Red doesn't give up. He battles Green and wins, becoming the new Pokémon League Champion himself!

Battling Team Rocket

Besides Green, Team Rocket is Red's main enemy. They are a group of bad guys who try to cause trouble. Red has many battles with Team Rocket during his journey. He eventually defeats Giovanni, who is the leader of Team Rocket. After this, the organization seems to disappear.

However, some Team Rocket members on Inta Island don't know their leader was defeated. Red finds them and defeats them too. Three years later, Team Rocket tries to cause trouble in a different area called the Johto region.

Red in the Anime Series

Red is the main character of a special anime miniseries called Pokémon Origins. In this show, Red tells the story of his journey. It covers everything from the very beginning of his adventure to becoming the Champion of the Kanto Pokémon League. It's just like the first Pokémon games!

Other Appearances

Red also appears in the Super Smash Bros. Brawl video game for the Wii console. He looks just like he did in the third generation of Pokémon video games.
