Red Lion Hill (Welsh: Bryn Llew Goch), also called Banc y Dolau, is a hill located in Powys, Wales. It stands about 485 meters (1,590 feet) above sea level. You can find it in Mid Wales, between the towns of Newtown and Llandrindod Wells. It's roughly 3 kilometers (2 miles) west of the main A483 road.
What's in a Name?
The name "Red Lion Hill" has an interesting history. At the start of the 1900s, the area just east of the hill was known as Red Lion Plantations. A little further away, there was a small village called Red Lion.
The Red Lion Hamlet
Today, the place called Red Lion is much smaller. As of 2020, it's just one house! The Royal Mail considers this single home to be part of the nearby village of Llanbadarn Fynydd.
Red Lion School
