Roy Alexander "Red" Parnell (born September 17, 1905 – died February 16, 1954) was a talented American baseball player. He played as a left fielder and also worked as a manager in the Negro Leagues. Red Parnell was best known for his time with the Philadelphia Stars from 1936 to 1943.

He was born in Austin, Texas, and passed away in Philadelphia when he was 48 years old.

Red Parnell's Amazing Rookie Year

Red Parnell started his professional baseball career in 1927. He played in the Negro National League. In his first year, he was incredibly good at batting.

He hit the ball so well that his batting average was .422. This was the best average in the entire league! He also led the league with 141 hits in 87 games.

Playing and Pitching Skills

Red Parnell was a very versatile player. In 1932, he played for the Memphis team in the Negro Southern League. That year, he led the league in several important categories:

  • He hit 12 doubles.
  • He hit 11 triples.
  • He had 50 runs batted in (RBIs), which means he helped his teammates score 50 runs.

Besides being a great hitter, Parnell also tried his hand at pitching. He pitched in at least one game in four different seasons. In 1932, he pitched seven games for the Red Sox team. He was the starting pitcher in six of those games.
