What is Tŝideldel?
Tŝideldel is a community where people live, but it's not officially a town or city. It is called an "unincorporated settlement." It is also a First Nations community. This means it is a place where Indigenous people, the Tsilhqot'in, have lived for a very long time.
Where is Tŝideldel Located?
Tŝideldel is found in the central part of British Columbia. It is near a place called Chilanko Forks. The community sits right by the Chilanko River. It's important not to confuse Tŝideldel (Redstone) with another spot also called Redstone. That other place is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) to the east.
Understanding Indian Reserves
The Tŝideldel community includes a few special areas. These areas are called "Indian Reserves." They are lands set aside for the use and benefit of First Nations people. In Tŝideldel, these include:
- Redstone Flat Indian Reserve No. 1
- Redstone Flat Indian Reserve No. 1A
- Redstone Cemetery Indian Reserve No. 1B
Who Manages the Community?
These reserves and the Tŝideldel community are managed by the Alexis Creek First Nation. A First Nation is a group of Indigenous people who share a common history and culture. They have their own government to look after their community and people.
