Redway is a small community in Humboldt County, California, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP) because it's a special area defined by the government for counting people.
Redway is located about 2.25 miles (3.6 km) northwest of a town called Garberville. It sits at an elevation of 538 feet (164 meters) above sea level. In 2020, about 1,247 people lived in Redway. The town is also home to Redway Elementary School, which teaches students from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Redway covers a total area of about 1.3 square miles (3.4 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 1.25 square miles (3.24 square kilometers). A small part, about 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometers), is water. This means only a tiny bit of Redway, about 1.7%, is covered by water.
Redway's Past: A Brief History
The town of Redway was started in 1923 by two brothers, Oscar and Charles Burris.
Interestingly, Redway was first planned as a fancy golf resort around 1925-1926. You can still see clues about this in some of the street names today. For example, there are streets named "Birdie", "Par", and "Green", which are all terms used in golf! Later, in the 1930s, the Burris brothers turned the area into a place for summer homes.
Who Lives in Redway?
The 2010 United States Census counted 1,225 people living in Redway. Most of the people, about 89.2%, were White. There were also people who identified as Native American, African American, Asian, and Pacific Islander. About 7.8% of the people were of Hispanic or Latino background.
Most people in Redway, about 97.3%, lived in regular homes. There were 551 households in total. About 29% of these homes had children under 18 living there. The average household had about 2.16 people.
The population of Redway includes people of all ages. About 22.7% were under 18 years old, and 11.8% were 65 years or older. The average age of people in Redway was about 40.8 years old.
