Growing Up and High School
Reggie Tongue grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He went to Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. During his senior year, Reggie was a star player. He played both running back and defensive back.
On offense, he ran for 932 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. On defense, he was excellent at stopping passes, making 11 interceptions. In 1990, he was named Alaska's football player of the year. After high school, he decided to play college football at Oregon State University.
College Football Journey
Reggie started his college career at Oregon State. He was first recruited to play running back. He spent his first year as a "redshirt," which means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to train and get stronger.
Later, due to injuries on the team's defense, Reggie switched to playing cornerback. He then moved to free safety in his junior year. He became very good at this position. Reggie even tied a conference record by returning four interceptions for touchdowns. He finished his college career with 9 interceptions and 362 tackles. He was recognized as one of the best players in his conference.
Playing in the NFL
Reggie Tongue was chosen by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1996 NFL Draft. He was the 58th player picked overall. He played for the Chiefs for four seasons, from 1996 to 1999.
After his time with the Chiefs, Reggie joined the Seattle Seahawks. He played for the Seahawks from 2000 to 2003. In 2004, he played for the New York Jets. He finished his professional football career in 2005 with the Oakland Raiders.
Throughout his NFL career, Reggie Tongue was known for his strong defensive play. He made a total of 676 tackles and had 15 interceptions. He also scored 4 defensive touchdowns.
