Regina George Grause (born 17 February 1991 in Chicago, United States) is an amazing American-born Nigerian sprinter. She is best known for her speed in the 400 metres race. Regina proudly represented Nigeria at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She also won a silver medal at the African Championships in 2012.

Her Family and Early Life

Regina's father, Phillips, is from Nigeria. He moved to the United States because he received an athletic scholarship. Her paternal grandfather was from Onitsha, and her grandmother was from Rivers State, both in Nigeria.

Regina's mother, Florencia Chilberry, was also a 400-meter runner from Venezuela. Both of Regina's parents were scholarship athletes in track and field at Wichita State University. Regina started running at a young age. When she was nine, she ran a mile in just 6 minutes and 13 seconds! She has one older sibling and three younger siblings.

Her Running Journey

Regina George has had a fantastic career in track and field. She has competed in many big events around the world.

Starting as a Junior Athlete

Regina first represented the United States as a junior athlete. This was at the 2010 World Junior Championships. She finished seventh in the 400-meter final. Later, she helped the United States 4 × 400-meter team win a gold medal. The Nigerian team finished second in that race.

At this event, Regina told the Nigerian coach, Gabriel Okon, that she wanted to run for Nigeria. In 2012, she began competing for Nigeria. This was just before the African Championships and the London Olympics.

College Success

While studying at the University of Arkansas, Regina was a star athlete. She won six 4 × 400-meter titles in the SEC. These included three indoor and three outdoor titles. She was also the SEC individual 400-meter champion in both 2012 and 2013.

In 2013, she helped the Razorbacks win the NCAA 4 × 400-meter outdoor title. She also finished second in the 400-meter final at the 2013 NCAA Division I Indoor championships. This was her personal best indoor time of 51.05 seconds.

Competing for Nigeria

In 2012, Regina became the Nigerian champion. She then won a silver medal in the 400-meter event at the 2012 African Championships. She finished just behind the world champion, Amantle Montsho.

At the 2012 London Olympics, Regina won her 400-meter heat. However, she did not make it to the final. She later ran the third part of the 4 × 400-meter relay for Nigeria. The team was unfortunately disqualified.

Setting New Records

In 2013, Regina ran under 51 seconds for the first time. She ran 50.99 seconds at the Nigeria Athletics Championships. At the Moscow World Championships, she set a personal best of 50.84 seconds. She also helped the Nigerian 4 × 400-meter relay team reach the final. They finished sixth, and Regina ran very fast in her part of the race.

In January 2014, Regina set an African indoor record for the 600 meters. Her time of 1:25.76 was one of the fastest ever!

Medals and Championships

At the first IAAF World Relays in 2014, Regina helped the Nigerian 4 × 400-meter relay team win a bronze medal. They finished behind the USA and Jamaica.

At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, Regina and her team won a silver medal in the 4 × 400-meter relay. They then won a gold medal at the African Championships in Marrakesh.

In 2015, at the 2015 IAAF World Relays, Regina was part of the 4 × 200-meter relay team that won a gold medal. They set a new African record with a time of 1:30.52! She also competed at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.

In 2016, Regina was part of the Nigerian 4 × 400-meter team that won a silver medal at the African Championships in Durban.
