Remembrance Day is a special yearly event held at the Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania. It marks the anniversary of a very important day in 1863 when the Gettysburg National Cemetery was officially opened. During this ceremony, President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous speech, the Gettysburg Address. Since 1868, the events and speeches held at Gettysburg National Military Park on this day have become well-known across the United States.

Because the cemetery dedication happened on November 19, that day (or the closest weekend) is now called Remembrance Day. This special day was first organized by the Grand Army of the Republic, a group of Union Army veterans from the American Civil War. In 1949, the U.S. Congress officially named this anniversary "Dedication Day." [1]
