Ren Hayakawa (早川 漣, Hayakawa Ren, born 24 August 1987) is a talented archer from Japan. She is best known for winning a bronze medal in the women's team archery event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Ren Hayakawa: An Olympic Archer

Ren Hayakawa is a famous Japanese archer. She has won several medals in major competitions. Her journey to becoming an Olympic medalist is quite inspiring.

Her Early Life and Family

Ren Hayakawa was born on August 24, 1987. Her birth name was Um Hye-ryeon. She was born in Anyang, a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

Ren started archery when she was in high school. She later joined a professional team. However, she never made it onto the South Korean national team. In 2007, Ren moved to Japan. She received a scholarship to study archery at the Nippon Sport Science University. She then became a Japanese citizen.

Ren has an older sister named Nami Hayakawa. Nami is also an Olympic archer. She competed for Japan in the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Ren's Archery Journey

In 2011, Ren Hayakawa was chosen for the Japanese Olympic team. This team would compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Ren was the second person in her family to become an Olympian. Her sister Nami had already competed in 2008.

Olympic Success in London

At the London 2012 Olympics, Ren Hayakawa competed in the women's team event. Her teammates were Kaori Kawanaka and Miki Kanie. They played very well and reached the bronze medal match. In this exciting match, they faced Russia. The Japanese team won by just two points. This victory earned Japan its first-ever Olympic medal in team archery!

Ren also competed in the women's individual event. She made it to the third round. There, she lost to Ki Bo-bae from South Korea.

More Medals and Recognition

After the Olympics, Ren continued to compete. In 2014, she won another bronze medal. This was at the 2014 Asian Games in the women's team recurve competition. Her teammates for this event were Kaori Kawanaka and Yuki Hayashi.

Ren Hayakawa has also been recognized outside of sports. She was featured in the Spring Summer 2021 Campaign for Adidas by Stella McCartney. This campaign was directed by Japanese photographer Monika Mogi.
