Renee Chenault-Fattah (born October 12, 1957) is an American journalist. She was a well-known news anchor for WCAU NBC 10 News in Philadelphia. She anchored the 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts on weeknights. Before becoming a journalist, she worked as a lawyer in New York City. On April 7, 2001, she married Chaka Fattah, who was a U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania.

Early Life and Education

Renee Chenault-Fattah studied political science at Johns Hopkins University. After that, she earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She worked at a law firm in New York. She also worked for a judge on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Later, she decided to pursue a career in media. She earned a master's degree in journalism. She studied at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.

Career in Journalism

Chenault-Fattah joined WCAU in September 1991. At that time, WCAU was a CBS TV station in Philadelphia. She worked there as both an anchor and a reporter.

After a few years, she became a co-anchor for the noon news. She worked with Tim Lake. In March 1995, she was promoted. She began anchoring the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news. By then, WCAU had become the NBC station in Philadelphia.

In 2003, Tim Lake joined her again. They co-anchored the 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts. She had spent eight years co-anchoring the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news. Her co-anchors included Ken Matz and Larry Mendte.

Renee Chenault-Fattah left the station on February 24, 2016. This decision came after her husband's public activities. She had been on leave for seven months before leaving.

Chenault-Fattah is a member of the board of trustees for Johns Hopkins University. She also serves as the Executive Director of Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity. This group helps people in Philadelphia overcome challenges from past legal issues.

Awards and Recognition

Renee Chenault-Fattah has received several honors. In 2002, she was named to the "Sy Snyder's Power 50" list. This list from PoliticsPA recognized influential people in Pennsylvania politics. She was also on the PoliticsPA list of "Pennsylvania's Most Politically Powerful Women."

The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia honored her in 2009. They inducted her into their Hall of Fame.

Personal Life

Renee Chenault-Fattah is married to Pennsylvania politician Chaka Fattah. She is his third wife. They have a daughter together named Chandler Fattah.

Before marrying Fattah, Renee Chenault-Fattah had another daughter. Her name is Cameron Chenault. She is also a stepmother to Frances ("Fran") Fattah and Chaka Fattah Jr..
