Reneta Indzhova's Early Life and Career
Reneta Indzhova was born in Nova Zagora, Bulgaria. She was a dedicated student and went to university. There, she earned a PhD and became a professor of political economy. This means she studied how governments and societies manage money and resources.
After her studies, she worked as a financial expert. She joined the Democratic Union (UDF), a political group. From 1992 to 1994, she led Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency. This agency helped change state-owned businesses into private ones.
Becoming Prime Minister
In 1994, Bulgaria was going through a political change. The previous government had collapsed. President Zhelyu Zhelev chose Reneta Indzhova to lead a special "caretaker government." A caretaker government is a temporary government. It manages the country until a new, permanent government can be formed.
Her time as Prime Minister was short but important. She became quite popular. People liked her efforts to fight against organized crime in the country.
After Her Time as Prime Minister
After her role as Prime Minister, Reneta Indzhova continued to be active in politics. In 1995, she ran for Mayor of Sofia, the capital city. She ran as an independent candidate, meaning she was not part of a specific political party. She finished third in that election.
In 2001, she also took part in the presidential elections. However, she did not receive much support in that race.
Years later, in 2014, she was in the news again. At that time, she was leading the National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria. She spoke out about political pressure she felt within the institution.
