"Replay" is a popular song by American singer Zendaya. It was released on July 16, 2013. This song was the first single from her very first album, also called Zendaya. Hollywood Records released the song after it was first heard on July 12, 2013.

Zendaya helped write "Replay" with Mick Schultz, Tiffany Fred, and Paul Phamous. Mick Schultz also produced the music. "Replay" is a mix of electro and R&B music styles. Many critics liked the song, especially its unique sound. It became a big hit, reaching number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The song was so popular that it was certified platinum, meaning it sold over a million copies! It also did well in other countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Belgium.

The music video for "Replay" was filmed in Los Angeles on June 1, 2013. Colin Tilley directed it. The video first appeared on Disney Channel on August 15, 2013. Later that day, it was also shown on Zendaya's new Vevo channel. The video was inspired by Janet Jackson's "The Pleasure Principle" music video. To help promote the song even more, Zendaya performed it on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She also included it in her performances during her first music tour.

How the Song Started

Zendaya first became famous as an actress. She starred in TV shows like Shake It Up. She also sang songs for movie soundtracks, such as "Watch Me" and "Something to Dance For".

On August 8, 2012, Zendaya shared exciting news on Twitter. She announced that she had signed a record deal with Hollywood Records. She said it was an "epic moment" in her life. She even shared pictures of herself signing the contract with the music company's leaders. In May 2013, news came out that Zendaya's first album would be released later that year. Her first song from the album would come out in June.

What "Replay" Sounds Like

"Replay" is three minutes and twenty-nine seconds long. It's a mix of electro and R&B music. Electro music uses electronic sounds, while R&B often has soulful vocals and rhythms. Zendaya's voice in the song covers a wide range, from low to high notes.

Tiffany Fred and Paul "Phamous" Shelton helped create the song. Zendaya talked about "Replay" in an interview with Radio Disney. She said, "It's a very special song. I think it's very different and unexpected for me." She felt it had a "higher level production." Zendaya also said the song was creating its "own lane or genre." She explained that it wasn't just pop, hip hop, or R&B. Instead, it mixed a pop beat with an R&B melody. She described it as having an "urban twist" instead of being basic pop music.

Promoting the Song

Zendaya gave fans a sneak peek of "Replay" on July 12, 2013. The next day, Radio Disney started playing it. On July 16, 2013, "Replay" was officially available to buy on iTunes.
