About José Requena Nozal
José Requena Nozal was born in a part of Zaragoza called El Arrabal. This was on October 25, 1947.
His very first art show by himself was in 1975. It took place at the Provincial Museum of La Rioja. In this show, he displayed paintings that showed everyday life using oil paints.
In 1982, he took part in a big art competition. It was called the "National Painting Contest for Young Artists." This contest was organized by the newspaper ABC.
In 1996, José Requena Nozal won a special award. He received the first prize at the "II Summer Salon of New York City." This award was given by the Goya Art Gallery in New York. He could not go to the ceremony, so someone else collected the prize for him.
Since 1997, he has been a member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors. This is a group for artists in Spain.
In 2016, the city of Dénia helped put on a special art show for him. It was called "Hemeroskopeion 1980-2015." This show looked back at his art from many years.
Art Techniques
A lot of José Requena Nozal's art uses a method called encaustic. This is an ancient way of painting where colors are mixed with hot wax. He likes to create big, detailed pictures with many things happening. His encaustic works often show different feelings and a strong sense of humanity. They mix real-life scenes with deep emotions.
Around 2004, his art style changed a lot. He started painting in a style called abstract expressionism or tachism. This means his paintings became more about shapes, colors, and feelings, rather than showing real objects. For these works, he uses encaustic, acrylic paints, and even gold leaf.
