More homes and businesses are being built in Rescue. Some neighborhoods are close together, like in a suburb. Other areas are more spread out, like in the countryside.

The downtown area of Rescue is quite small. It has a post office, a Fire Station, and two churches. There is also a Community Center for local events. A restaurant used to be open in the old Rescue Store building, but it is now closed.

How Rescue Got Its Name

The town of Rescue was started in 1895. There's a story about how it got its name. A man named Andrew Hare was said to be "rescued" from being poor because he found gold through mining. So, he named the town Rescue.

The town was once an important stop. It was on the famous Pony Express trail. This trail was used to deliver mail quickly across the country. Rescue was a stop between Placerville and Folsom.

Schools in Rescue

Students in Rescue attend schools run by two different districts. For younger students, up to middle school, the Rescue Union School District serves the area.

For high school, students go to schools in the El Dorado Union High School District. Most high school students from Rescue attend the Ponderosa High School campus.

Nature in Rescue

Rescue is home to the Pine Hill Ecological Reserve. This reserve is a special place that protects nature. It is one part of a larger system called the Pine Hill Preserve.

The Pine Hill Preserve covers more than 4,000 acres (16 square kilometers). Its main goal is to protect eight types of rare plants. These plants grow in a special type of soil called gabbro soil.
