Ricardo is a small, quiet place in Kern County, California. It's not a big city with a mayor or a city council. Instead, it's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes or buildings that are not part of an official city or town.

Discovering Ricardo

Ricardo is found in a beautiful area called Red Rock Canyon. It's about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of a place called Cantil. This area is quite high up, about 2,575 feet (785 meters) above sea level!

The main office for Red Rock Canyon State Park is located very close to where Ricardo is. This park is famous for its amazing rock formations and colorful cliffs.

A Bit of History

Ricardo has a bit of history, even though it's a small community. Before the 1970s, an important road called California State Route 14 used to pass right through Ricardo. This road was later changed, so it no longer goes directly through the community.

Ricardo also had its own post office for several years. It was open from 1898 to 1907, then again from 1908 to 1912, and finally from 1913 to 1917.

How Ricardo Got Its Name

The name "Ricardo" came from a man named Rudolf Hagen. He decided to name the community after his son, Richard Hagen.
