Ricardo William Faty (born on August 4, 1986) is a former professional football player. He played as a midfielder and was known for his strong defensive skills. Ricardo was born in France but played for the Senegal national team.

Ricardo Faty's Football Journey
Early Career at Strasbourg
Ricardo Faty started his football journey in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, France. He joined the youth team of Strasbourg in 2002. By the 2004–05 season, he was playing in the amateur league for Strasbourg. He played 27 matches and scored one goal. The next year, he played 12 matches for Strasbourg's main professional team. His first game in Ligue 1, France's top league, was on October 29, 2005.
Moving to A.S. Roma
During the 2005–06 UEFA Cup, Ricardo Faty's team, Strasbourg, played against A.S. Roma from Italy. Roma's coach, Luciano Spalletti, noticed Ricardo's talent. In 2006, Strasbourg was moved down to a lower league. Ricardo then signed a five-year contract with A.S. Roma for 350,000 Euros.
He made his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League with Roma. This was against Olympiacos in Greece. His job was to closely guard the famous Brazilian player, Rivaldo. Roma won the match 1–0. Ricardo did such a good job that his coach praised him. Many newspapers even called him the "new" Patrick Vieira, another famous French midfielder.
Loan Spells and New Teams
After his first season in Italy, Ricardo wanted to play more often. So, on July 6, 2007, he moved to the German team Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a two-year loan. In January 2008, he was loaned again, this time to FC Nantes in France. He stayed there until the end of the 2008–09 season.
In 2010, Ricardo joined the Greek club Aris Salonica. In his first season there (2010–2011), he played about 35 matches and scored two goals. In 2012, he moved back to France to play for Ajaccio.
On August 18, 2014, Ricardo signed a four-year contract with Standard Liège in Belgium. Later, in the summer of 2018, he joined the Turkish club MKE Ankaragücü. He left the club in May 2019.
On September 16, 2020, Ricardo Faty joined Reggina in Italy. He signed a three-year contract with them. He faced some injuries during his time there. On August 6, 2022, his contract with Reggina ended by agreement.
Ricardo Faty's Family and Background
Ricardo Faty has an older brother named Jacques Faty, who is also a professional football player. Even though Ricardo and Jacques were born in France, their family has roots in different countries. Their father is from Senegal and Vietnam, and their mother is from Cape Verde. Ricardo's father is Muslim and his mother is Catholic. Ricardo himself became a Muslim when he was 20 years old.
