Ricardo Gomes Raymundo, born on December 13, 1964, is a famous Brazilian former football player and coach. He played as a strong central defender for 14 years. His main teams were Fluminense in Brazil, and Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain in Europe.
Ricardo Gomes also played for the Brazilian national team in the 1980s and 1990s. He took part in the 1990 World Cup and two Copa América tournaments. After his playing career, he became a successful football manager in both Brazil and France.

Early Days at Fluminense
He began playing for Fluminense Football Club. With Fluminense, he won three state championships in a row. He also helped the team win the Brazilian national league in 1984.
Success in Portugal with Benfica
In 1988, Ricardo Gomes moved to Portugal to play for S.L. Benfica. He joined with his teammate Valdo. They both played a big part in Benfica winning the Portuguese championship in their first season. They won the league again in 1991. Ricardo Gomes was known for scoring many goals, especially with his head. He scored 17 goals during these two championship wins.
Time in France with Paris Saint-Germain
In 1991, Ricardo Gomes and Valdo moved to Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in France. They played there for four years. During this time, they won four titles, including the French league title in 1994. For the next four years, Ricardo Gomes coached in France again. He managed FC Girondins de Bordeaux and then AS Monaco FC. In 2009, he became the coach of São Paulo FC in Brazil. In 2011, he moved to CR Vasco da Gama. He led Vasco da Gama to win their first ever Brazilian Cup. They won against Coritiba with a total score of 3-3 over two games.
Health Challenge and Return to Coaching
On August 28, 2011, Ricardo Gomes had a serious health issue during a match between Flamengo and Vasco da Gama. He was taken to the hospital and had emergency surgery. After more than a year away from football, he returned to Vasco da Gama in November 2012 as a technical director. In July 2015, he became the head coach of Botafogo.

In August 2016, Ricardo Gomes was appointed head coach of São Paulo FC again. However, he was dismissed in November 2016 due to poor results. In September 2018, he returned to coach Bordeaux for a second time.
