Richard Steven Burmer (born September 19, 1955 – died September 9, 2006) was an American composer and engineer. He was also a sound designer and musician. Richard was known for his unique electronic music. He mixed electronic sounds with musical styles and instruments from all over the world. This created a special sound that was all his own.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Richard was born on September 19, 1955, in Owosso, Michigan. As a young person growing up in Michigan, he discovered many different types of music. He loved music from India and the Middle East. He also enjoyed modern orchestral music and electronic sounds.

Richard found that synthesizers and the Mellotron (an early music sampler) offered many cool sounds. Bands like The Moody Blues, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd also influenced his music. He finished high school at Corunna High School in Michigan.

Richard Burmer's Career

After studying music theory and composition in college, Richard moved to Los Angeles. There, he became a sound designer for E-mu Systems in Santa Cruz. He also worked as an engineer and synthesizer programmer for EFX systems in Burbank.

Richard Burmer passed away on September 9, 2006, in Saginaw, Michigan. He was 50 years old. A radio show called Hearts of Space dedicated an episode to him in 2007. It was titled "Across the View." Another radio show, Echoes, released a special podcast about him in 2016.
