Richard FitzRoy (born around 1190 – died June 1246) was a son of King John of England. He was known by other names like Richard de Chilham and Richard de Dover. Richard was the feudal baron of Chilham, a special land ownership title, in Kent, England. His mother was Adela de Warenne, who was King John's cousin.

Richard's Early Life and Military Service
Richard FitzRoy grew up during a time of change in England. He was the son of a king, but because his parents were not married, he was called an "illegitimate" son. This meant he couldn't inherit the throne.
Serving King John
Richard was a brave soldier. He served as a captain in his father's army. This was during a time when some powerful nobles were rebelling against King John.
Important Roles
In 1216, Richard was given an important job. He became the constable of Wallingford Castle. A constable was like a commander or manager of a castle. The next year, in 1217, he played a big part in a naval battle off the coast of Kent. This was a sea fight that helped protect England.
Richard's Lands and Family
Richard gained control of several lands through his marriage. These included manors in Essex and Kent. A manor was a large estate with a village and farmland.
His Marriage and Children
Before May 1214, Richard married a woman named Rohese de Dover. She was the daughter of Fulbert de Dover. Richard and Rohese had three children together:
- Richard de Dover, who later became the feudal baron of Chilham.
- Isabella, who married Sir Maurice de Berkeley.
- Lorette, who married Sir William Marmion.
Rohese After Richard
After Richard passed away in 1246, his wife Rohese remarried. She married William de Wilton, who was an important judge. Rohese died around February 1261. Her heart was buried at Lesnes Abbey.
